INGREDIENTS:
- Chickpea - 1/4 cup
- Green gram - 1/4 cup
- Cowpea - 1/4 cup
- Kidney bean - 1/4
- Chopped onion - 1
- Chopped green chili - 2
- Curry leaf - 8
- Chicken masala powder - 2 teaspoon (tsp.)
- Garam masala powder - 1/2 teaspoon (tsp.)
- Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon (tsp.)
- -- To Grind to Paste --
- Shallot (sambar onion) - 1/2 cup
- Tomato - 2
- Ginger - 1 inch
- Garlic - 5 cloves
- Fresh shredded coconut - 1/2 cup
- -- For Tempering --
- Cinnamon stick - 1 inch
- Cloves - 3
- Oil - as needed
- Salt - as needed
PREPARATION:
- Soak chick pea, green gram, cow pea, kidney pea separately in water for 8 hours. Cook them by adding measure water. i.e. some liquid is left.
- Grind the ingredients under section "-- To Grind to Paste --" to a fine paste by adding little water as possible.
- In a pan heat oil. Add cinnamon stick, cloves and sauté for 30 seconds. Now add chopped onion, green chili, curry leaves and sauté until the onion turns translucent (golden brown).
- Now add the ground paste and cook until the raw smell is gone.
- Now add chicken masala powder, garam masala powder, salt as needed and cook until oil starts to separates.
- Now add the cooked chick pea, green gram, cow pea, kidney pea with the liquid and cook until the oil starts to separate and serve.
NOTES:
- Goes well with chapatti.
