INGREDIENTS:

  1. Green gram (mung bean) - 1/2 cup
  2. Finely chopped tomato - 1 big
  3. Finely chopped onion - 1 big
  4. Finely chopped green chili - 2
  5. Coriander powder - 1 teaspoon (tsp.)
  6. Turmeric powder - 1/4 teaspoon (tsp.)
  7. Asafoetida powder - 1/4 teaspoon (tsp.)
  8. Lemon - 1/2
  9. Chopped garlic - 3 cloves
  10. Coriander leaves - a handful
  11. Mustard seed - 1 teaspoon (tsp.)
  12. Split black gram - 1 teaspoon (tsp.)
  13. Cumin seed - 1/2 teaspoon (tsp.)
  14. Curry leaves - 5
  15. Oil - 2 teaspoon (tsp.)
  16. Salt - to taste

PREPARATION:

  1. In a pressure cooker add Green gram (mung bean), tomato, onion, green chili, garlic, 1/2 lemon juice and 1 to 1 1/2 cup water (or as needed) and cook for 3 whistle. Remove from heat and keep aside until the pressure is gone. Add salt as needed and mix well.
  2. In a pan heat oil, add mustard seed, split black gram, cumin seed, curry leaves and cook until the mustard seed stop splattering. Now add this to the pressure cooked Dal.
  3. Mix well and serve with chapati.

NOTES:

  1. Goes well with chapati.
