INGREDIENTS:
- Pigeon pea - 1/4 cup
- Turkey berry - 1/4 cup
- Shredded coconut - 2 tablespoon (tbsp.)
- Mustard seed - 3/4 teaspoon (tsp.)
- Chili powder - 1/2 teaspoon (tsp.)
- Tamarind - 1 small gooseberry size
- Curry leaf - 8
- Mustard seed - 1/2 teaspoon (tsp.)
- Oil - 2 teaspoon (tsp.)
- Salt - as needed
PREPARATION:
- Cut turkey berry into two pieces. Add water until the berries submerge and cook them. Takes about 15 minutes.
- Cook the pigeon pea by adding necessary water. Takes 15 minutes.
- Soak tamarind in 3 tablespoon (tbsp.) of water for 10 minutes and make thick juice.
- Grind coconut by adding 2 tablespoon (tbsp.) of water.
- In a pan add cooked turkey berry, cooked pigeon pea, tamarind juice, salt as needed and bring to boil. Boil for 2 minutes.
- Now add chili powder, ground coconut paste and cook for 2 more minutes. Remove koottu from stove. Add curry leaf to koottu and mix well.
- In separates pan heat oil, add mustard seeds once they stop splattering add this to koottu and serve.
