INGREDIENTS:
- Rice - 1 cup
- Pattani paruppu (split pea) - 1/4 cup
- Chopped onion - 1/2 cup
- Cumin seed - 1 teaspoon (tsp.)
- Cinnamon stick - 1/2 inch
- Clove - 2
- Crushed Cardamom - 1
- Black pepper - 12
- Oil - 1 laddle
- Salt - as needed
PREPARATION:
- Soak rice and split pea each separately in water over night or 4 to 5 hours. Drain all the liquid and keep it aside.
- In a pan heat oil and sauté the onion until they become translucent (golden brown).
- Now add cumin seeds, cloves, cinnamon stick, cardamom, black pepper, little water and sauté them.
- Now add the soaked spit pea, 2 1/4 cup of water and bring to boil. Simmer and cook for 10 minutes.
- Now add soaked rice and cook 20 to 25 minutes or until the rice is cooked and then serve.
NOTES:
- Adjust water if needed, for best result ratio to rice to water should be 1:2.
