INGREDIENTS:

  1. Biryani (Basmati) rice - 500 grams
  2. Chicken pieces - 500 grams
  3. Chopped ginger - 1 inch
  4. Chopped garlic - 6 cloves
  5. Chopped onion - 2
  6. Chopped tomato - 3
  7. Black pepper powder - 10 grams
  8. Cumin seeds powder - 10 grams
  9. Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon (tsp.)
  10. Poppy seeds - 2 teaspoon (tsp.)
  11. Cashew nut - 10
  12. Coconut milk - 250 milliliter
  13. Cinnamon powder - 1 teaspoon (tsp.)
  14. Cloves - 1 teaspoon (tsp.)
  15. Chili powder - 1 teaspoon (tsp.)
  16. Curry leaves - 1 sprig
  17. Coriander leaves - a handful
  18. Ghee - 75 grams
  19. Oil - 100 milliliter
  20. Salt - to taste

PREPARATION:

  1. Cook the rice. Make sure its cooked fluffy. Golden rule is for every cup of rice you add 2 cups of water. Note this varies from rice to rice kind.
  2. In a pan melt ghee. Now add oil. Once the oil is heated add cinnamon stick, cloves, cardamom and
  3. Add ghee and oil in a broad kadai after it becomes hot add cinnamon, cloves and cardamom and fry till it becomes red.
  4. After that add onion, ginger and garlic one after another and fry.
  5. Add chicken pieces and mix for two minutes.
  6. Cook it in 250 ml of coconut milk and 100 ml of water.
  7. After it thickens, add the boiled rice little by little, mix it well, close it and boil it for 5 minutes in a low flame.
  8. Then take it out and serve with curd pachadi.
