INGREDIENTS:
- Chopped onion - 1
- Chopped Tomato - 3
- Slit Green chili - 3
- Curry leaf - little
- Coriander leaf - little
- -- Powders to add --
- Turmeric powder - 1/4 teaspoon (tsp.)
- Chili powder - 1 teaspoon (tsp.)
- Salt - as needed
- -- For Tempering --
- Mustard seed - 1/4 teaspoon (tsp.)
- Fenugreek seed - 4 or 5 count
- Split black gram - 1/2 teaspoon (tsp.)
- Oil - tablespoon (tbsp.)
PREPARATION:
- Heat oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds, fenugreek seeds, split black gram. Once the mustard seeds stop splattering add onion and sauté.
- Once the onion is little sautéed. add tomato, green chili and sauté for 1 to 2 minutes.
- Now add all the ingredients under the section "-- Powders to add --"
- Now stir and cook until tomato is cooked and mashed well.
- Now add 1 cup of water and cook for 3 to 4 minutes. Before you remove from heat add curry leaves, coriander leaves.
- Tomato thokku is ready to be served.
NOTES:
- Goes well with idli, dosai, chapati.
- Add water only after you add the powders.
- Cooking time: 15 minutes
