INGREDIENTS:
- Split Mung Dal - 1 cup
- Shallots - 5
- Tomatoes - 1
- Hot Green Chili - 2
- Curry leaves (optional) - 5
- Garlic - 5 pieces
- Cumin seeds - 1/2 teaspoon (tsp)
- Black Pepper - 1/2 teaspoon (tsp)
- Oil - as needed
- Salt - to taste
- Turmeric Powder - 1/4 teaspoon (tsp)
- Asafoetida - 1/4 teaspoon (tsp)
PREPARATION:
- Cut the tomatoes, shallots, hot green chilies into small pieces.
- Crush the garlic, cumin seeds and black pepper in a pestle.
- Add water and cook the mung dal soft with turmeric powder and cut tomatoes.
- Heat oil in a pan add cut shallot, hot green chili, crushed (garlic, cumin seeds and black pepper) ingredients and curry leaves until the shallots turn golden brown.
- Now add the cooked Mung Dal, Asafoetida and salt and cook for 3-5 min.
NOTES:
- Now a good sambar is ready for Dosai (dosa).
