INGREDIENTS:
- Fish pieces - 1/2 kilogram
- Tamarind - 1 big gooseberry size
- Curry leaf - 10 count
- Coriander leaf - little for garnish
- Chopped onion - 1 big
- Chopped Tomato - 1
- Slit green chili - 4
- Turmeric powder - 1/4 teaspoon (tsp.)
- Chili powder - 1 1/2 tablespoon (tsp.)
- Mustard seed - 1/4 teaspoon (tsp.)
- Fenugreek seed - 1/4 teaspoon (tsp.)
- Oil - 1 tablespoon (tbsp.)
- Salt - as needed.
PREPARATION:
- Soak tamarind in 2 1/2 cup of water and take tamarind juice.
- In a pan heat oil. Add mustard seeds, fenugreek seeds. Once the mustard seeds stop splattering add onion and sauté until they are translucent.
- Now add tomato and sauté until they become mushy.
- Now add tamarind water, turmeric powder, chili powder, salt and bring to boil. Place a lid and cook this for 8 to 10 minutes or until the raw smell is gone.
- Now add the fish pieces, slit green chilies. Place a lid and cook this medium to low heat for 4 to 5 minutes until the fish is cooked.
- Now add curry leaves and coriander leaves. Remove from heat and serve.
NOTES:
- Goes well with plain rice.
- You can use Vadagam instead of mustard seeds and fenugreek seeds.
- Preparation time: 30 minutes.
