INGREDIENTS:

  1. Seer fish or pomfret - 2 pieces
  2. Finely chopped onion - 1
  3. Finely chopped tomato - 1
  4. Ginger garlic paste - 2 teaspoon (tsp.)
  5. Chili powder - 1 teaspoon (tsp.)
  6. Tamarind - betel nut size
  7. Coconut oil - as needed
  8. Banana leaf - 2 pieces to fold the fish pieces with
  9. Salt - as needed

PREPARATION:

  1. In a bowl add fish pieces, 1/2 chili powder, salt and mix well. Marinate the fish pieces for at least 30 minutes. Now fry the fish pieces and keep it aside.
  2. Soak the tamarind in water and get a thick paste.
  3. In a pan heat oil. Now add mustard seeds. Once the mustard seeds stop splattering add the onion and sauté until they turn translucent.
  4. Now add ginger garlic paste and sauté until the raw smell is gone.
  5. Now add tomato and sauté until it becomes mushy.
  6. Now add the rest of chili powder and sauté until the raw smell is gone.
  7. Now add the tamarind juice, salt and cook until the oil starts to separate. Now remove from heat the masala and keep it aside.
  8. Slightly roast the bottom side of banana leaves i.e. turn color. On top side of each banana leaf brush with oil, place some masala; place a fish pieces on to masala; now some more masala on top of the fish piece Now wrap the fish pieces and tie gently with thread.
  9. In a pan heat oil. now places the wrapped banana leaves and roast them until the banana leaf becomes dark and roasted on all side.
  10. Now un wrap the fish and serve.
