INGREDIENTS:
- Shrimp - 1/2 kilogram
- Tomato - 2
- Chopped Shallot (sambar onion) - 100 grams
- Chopped Garlic - 10 cloves
- Curry leaf - 8
- Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon (tsp.)
- Fennel seeds - 1/2 tablespoon (tbsp.)
- Split black gram - 1/2 teaspoon (tsp.)
- Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon (tsp.)
- Cumin seed powder - 1/2 teaspoon (tsp.)
- Chili powder - 1 tablespoon (tbsp.) + 1/2 teaspoon (tsp.)
- Salt - as needed
PREPARATION:
- Grind tomato, fennel seeds, 2 tablespoon (tbsp.) of water and grind to a thick fine paste.
- In pan heat oil. Now add the black gram and sauté until grams turn brown.
- Now add garlic and sauté for 30 seconds.
- Now add curry leaves, shallot (sambar onion) and sauté until the shallot turns translucent (golden brown).
- Now add the shrimp (make sure all the liquid is drained from the shrimp) and sauté for 2 minutes.
- Now add the turmeric powder, chili powder, black pepper, cumin powder and sauté for a minute.
- Now add the tomato puree and bring to boil.
- Now add 2 cups of water bring to boil and cook for 5 more minutes or to the right thickness of your choice and serve.
NOTES:
- Cooking until the oil start separate will give good result.
- In step 8, instead of 2 cup of water you can add 1 cup of water and 1 cup of coconut milk for better taste.
