INGREDIENTS:
- Chopped Onion - 1 large
- Chopped Tomato - 2 large
- Chopped green chili - 3 or to your spice tolerance
- Ginger garlic paste - 1 tablespoon (tbsp.)
- Chili powder - 1 teaspoon (tsp.)
- Coriander powder - 2 teaspoon (tsp.)
- Cumin powder - 1/2 teaspoon (tsp.)
- Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon (tsp.)
- Chopped Coriander leaf - little for garnish
- Chopped mint leaf - little for garnish
- Salt - as needed
- -- For Tempering --
- Cinnamon piece - 1 inch
- Bay leaf - 2
- Cardamom - 4
- Cloves - 4
- Curry leaves - 1 sprig
- Oil - 2 tablespoon (from left over oil after making vadai if available)
- -- For Grinding To make vadai--
- Soaked split bengal gram - 1 cup
- Fennel seed - 1 1/2 teaspoon (tsp.)
- Dry chili - 2 large
- Salt - as needed.
PREPARATION:
- Grind all the ingredient under "-- For Grinding --" without add any water, check for salt and keep it aside. Make small vadai out of this dough. drain excess oil from vadai's and keep it aside.
- In the pan heat oil, add onions and sauté them until they turn translucent (golden brown).
- Now add ginger garlic paste and sauté until the raw smell is gone.
- Now add tomato, green chili and sauté for 2 to 3 minutes or until they become mushy.
- Now add chili powder, coriander powder, cumin powder, turmeric powder and sauté them.
- Now add 1 cup of water and bring to boil and cook well until the raw smell is gone.
- Now add the vadai's (broken into small pieces). Simmer and cook for 2 to 3 minutes.
- Garnish with coriander, mint leaves and serve.
