INGREDIENTS:

  1. Mudakathan (balloon vine) keerai - 3 handful
  2. Raw rice - 1/4 kilogram
  3. Dry chili - 6
  4. Black pepper powder - 1 teaspoon (tsp.)
  5. Shredded cocount - from 1/2 coconut
  6. Ghee - as needed
  7. Split green gram - 3 tablespoon (tbsp.)
  8. Salt - as needed
  9. --------------------------

  11. ---------------------------
  12. Mustard seed - 1 teaspoon (tsp.)
  13. Split black gram - 1 teaspoon (tsp.)
  14. Split bengal gram - 1 teaspoon (tsp.)
  15. Cumin seed - 1 teaspoon (tsp.)

PREPARATION:

  1. Wash clean mudakathan (balloon vine) keerai remove all the water and cut them in small pieces.
  2. Soak raw rice in water for at least 1 hour. Once rice is soaked will drain all the water. In mixer or blender add the soaked rice, coconut, dry chili and grind to coarse.
  3. In a pan heat ghee and add the chopped mudakathan (balloon vine) keerai and sauté well.
  4. In a bowl add ground rice, sauteed mudakathan (balloon vine) keerai, black pepper powder, salt and mix well.
  5. In pan heat ghee. add mustard seeds, split black gram, split bengal gram, cumin seeds. once the mustard seeds stop splattering add the rice mixture and cook until the color changes. Cook this until it does not stick to the pan. Remove this from heat and cook to room temperature.. Once cooled make kolukattai by taking a hand ful and pressing hard. Do kolukattai will the rice mixture.
  6. Heat idly pan with water as needed. Place all kolukattai in the idli Stand (thattu) and steam cook them for 10 minutes or when kolukattai is done and serve.

NOTES:

  1. Mudakathan (balloon vine) keerai is good for Arthritic.
  2. Its reduces inflammatory
