INGREDIENTS:
- Pigeon pea (red gram) - 1 cup
- Chopped Onion - 1
- Chopped Dry hot chilies - 3 (broken into pieces)
- Chopped Garlic - 2 (optional)
- Turmeric powder - 1 teaspoon (tsp.)
- Cumin powder - 1 teaspoon (tsp.)
- Shredded Ginger - 1 tablespoon (tbsp.)
- Chopped Ripe tomatoes - 3
- Asafoetida powder - 1/4 teaspoon (tsp.)
- Salt - to taste
- Oil or olive oil – 3 or 4 tablespoon (tbsp.)
PREPARATION:
- Pressure cook pigeon pea (red gram) for 5 to 6 whistle by adding 2 cups of water, salt to taste, garlic and turmeric powder. Mash the pigeon pea and keep it aside.
- In a pan heat oil. Add asafoetida, hot chili and sauté for 1 min.
- Now add chopped onion and sauté until it turn golden brown.
- Now add chopped ginger and sauté until the raw smell is gone.
- Now Add the chopped tomatoes and sauté until oil separates.
- Now add the cooked Pigeon pea paste.
- Simmer and cook until the right thickness is reached and serve.
