INGREDIENTS:
- Idli batter (fresh not too fermented) - 2 cup
- Javvarisi (Tapioca Sago) - 1/4 cup
- Cumin seed - 1 teaspoon (tsp.)
- Finely chopped Onion - 1
- Finely chopped Green chili - 3
- Finely chopped Ginger - 1/2 inch
- Chopped Curry leaf - 6
- Mustard seed - 1 teaspoon (tsp.)
- Split black gram - 1/2 tablespoon (tbsp.)
- Sesame oil - as needed
- Salt - 3/4 teaspoon (tsp.)
PREPARATION:
- Add javvarisi, salt as needed to the idli batter and keep it aside for 5 to 6 hours.
- After soaking, add onion, green chili, ginger, curry leaves and beat the batter well.
- In a pan heat 1 tablespoon (tbsp.) of oil. Add mustard seeds, split black gram, cumin seeds. Once the mustard seeds stop splattering add this this to the batter and mix well.
- -- Making the appam --
- Heat a tablespoon (tbsp.) of oil in a flat skillet.
- Now pour a ladle of batter and spread to thick round sheet.
- Sprinkle 1/2 teaspoon (tsp.) of oil. Place a lid and cook this for 2 minutes. i.e. golden brown on the side down.
- Make more appam with the rest of the batter and serve.
NOTES:
- Eat this with chutney.
