Coconut thuvaiyal recipe

INGREDIENTS:

  1. Coconut - 1 1/2 cup
  2. Hot green chili - 8 to 10
  3. Asafoetida - a pinch
  4. Uluttam paruppu (split black gram) - 1 teaspoon (tsp)
  5. Curry leaves (optional) - 5
  6. Tamarind - gooseberry (Nellikai) size
  7. Oil as needed

PREPARATION:

  1. In a pan heat oil add Uluttam paruppu (split black gram) , Hot green chili, Curry leaves, Asafoetida and fry them for 2-4 min.
  2. In a blender (mixi) add water as needed and grind all the ingredients into a fine paste to thick consistency and serve.

NOTES:

  1. You can also dry roast the coconut to get rid of excess moisture as well.
