Green gram sambar recipe

INGREDIENTS:

  1. Green gram (pasi paruppu) - 1/4 cup
  2. Coconut - 1/2 or 1
  3. Green chili paste - 2 teaspoon (tsp.) or from 4 green chili
  4. Finely chopped Onion - 2
  5. Finely chopped Tomato - 2
  6. Finely chopped Ginger - 1 inch
  7. Finely chopped Garlic - 6 cloves
  8. Turmeric powder - 1/4 teaspoon (tsp.)
  9. Lemon juice - 2 teaspoon (tsp.)
  10. Curry leaf - 5
  11. -- For tempering--
    1. Cinnamon stick - 1 inch
    2. Curry leaf - 5
    3. Oil - 2 tablespoon (tbsp.)
  12. Salt - to taste

PREPARATION:

  1. Pressure cook green gram, turmeric powder by adding 3/4 cup of water.
  2. Grind the coconut pulp by adding 1 1/2 cup of water and get the milk (first thick milk).  Now add another 1 1/2 cup of water and get the light milk (second light milk)
  3. Now add the second light milk, tomato, green chili paste, ginger, garlic, salt to taste to green gram and cook until onion is well cooked.
  4. Now add the first thick milk, lemon juice, 5 curry leaves and keep it aside.
  5. In a pan heat oil, add cinnamon stick, curry leaves sauté for 1 min and add to green gram sambar and serve.

NOTES:

  1. Goes well with idly, rice and iddiyappam.
