Avarakai (broad bean) poriyal recipe

INGREDIENTS:

  1. Avarakai (broad bean) - 1/2 kilo gram
  2. Mustard seed - 1/2 tablespoon (tbsp)
  3. Curry leaves (optional) - 5
  4. Onion - 1
  5. Hot green chili - 5
  6. Shredded coconut - 1/2 cup
  7. Cumin (Jeeragam) seeds - 1/2 tablespoon (tbsp)
  8. Salt - to taste
  9. Oil - 3 tablespoon (tbsp)

PREPARATION:

  1. Cut broad bean in to fine pieces. Cut onion into fine pieces.
  2. Grind shredded coconut, hot green chili, cumin into paste by adding as little water as possible.
  3. In a pan heat oil. Add mustard seed wait until it start to splatter.
  4. Add the cut onions, curry leaves and cook until the onions turn golden brown.
  5. Now add the cut broad beans and cook in low heat until its done.
  6. Now a the ground cocoanut. Mix and cook until excess water is evaporated or for 3 min. and serve

NOTES:

  1. When grinding coconut, you can do it without water for better taste.
