Ven pongal (white pongal) recipe

INGREDIENTS:

  1. Mung beans (pasi paruppu) - 200 grams
  2. Rice - 1 cup
  3. Ghee - 50 grams
  4. Cashews - 10
  5. Black pepper - 2 tablespoon (tbsp)
  6. Cumin seeds - 1 tablespoon (tbsp)
  7. Curry leaves (optional) - 5
  8. Ginger - 1 inch
  9. Salt - to taste

PREPARATION:

  1. Cut ginger into fine pieces.
  2. In a pan fry the mung beans (pasi paruppu) for 4-5 min ( note don't burn it)
  3. Cook the rice to paste by adding mung beans (pasi paruppu) and salt to taste with 3-4 cups of water.
  4. In a pan melt ghee add ginger, cumin seeds, black pepper, curry leaves and cashews until cashews turn golden brown.
  5. Now add the fried items in step 4 to the cooked rice mix well and serve.
