Brown rice pongal recipe

INGREDIENTS:

  1. Brown rice - 1 cup
  2. spit mung dal - 1/4 cup
  3. Black pepper - 1 teaspoon (tsp)
  4. Cumin seeds - 1 teaspoon (tsp)
  5. Ginger - 1 inch
  6. Cashews - 4
  7. Asafoetida - 1 teaspoon (tsp)
  8. Salt - to taste
  9. Curry leaves - 5
  10. Ghee - 1/4 cup

PREPARATION:

  1. Soak brown rice, mung dal for an hour. Cut ginger into fine pieces.
  2. In a pressure cooker cook brown rice, mung dal and salt to taste until its well done (to a paste consistency).
  3. In a pan heat the ghee and add black pepper, cumin seeds, ginger, cashews, curry leaves, cashews and cook until the cumin seed splatter.
  4. Now add the fried stuff to the cooked rice and mix well. Pongal is ready to be served.
