INGREDIENTS:

  1. Plantain stem cube - 1 1/2 or 2 cup
  2. Split bengal gram - 1 cup
  3. Chopped Shallot (sambar onion) - 2
  4. Mustard seed - 1 teaspoon (tsp.)
  5. Curry leaf - 8
  6. Salt - as needed
  7. Oil - 2 tablespoon (tbsp.)
  8. Coriander leaf - as needed
  9. -- To grind to paste --
    1. Shredded coconut - 1 cup
    2. Green chili - 4
    3. Fennel seed - 1 teaspoon (tsp.)
    4. Ginger - 1 inch
    5. Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon (tsp.)

PREPARATION:

  1. Cook bengal gram, plantain stems in pressure cooker for 4 whistle and keep it aside.
  2. Grind the ingredients under the section "-- To grind to paste --" coarsely.
  3. In  a pan heat oil. Add mustard seeds once the mustard seeds stop splattering add curry leaves, shallot and sauté until the shallot turn translucent (golden brown).
  4. Now add the cooked plantain stems, ground paste, salt to taste and bring to boil.
  5. Now garnish with coriander leaves and serve.
