INGREDIENTS:

  1. Gram flour - 1 cup
  2. Chopped fresh coconut - 1 teaspoon (tsp.)
  3. -- For Tempering --
    1. Mustard seed - 1/4 teaspoon (tsp.)
    2. Split black gram - 1/4 teaspoon (tsp.)
    3. Chopped Green chili - 1
    4. Shredded ginger - 1 small piece
    5. Asafoetida powder - a pinch
    6. Dry chili - 1
  4. Coriander leaf - a handful
  5. Salt - as needed

PREPARATION:

  1. Add water to gram flour and make a thick batter. Now stir and cook this in low heat. Once this starts to boil and thicken up add coconut, salt and continue cooking.
  2. In the mean time heat oil in a pan. add mustard seeds, black gram, dry chili, asafoetida powder once the mustard stopped splattering add green chili, ginger and cook until the raw smell is gone. Add this to the cooking gram flour chutney. NOTE:  Gram flour will cook fast about 1 or 2 minutes.
  3. Once the gram flour is cooked and right thickness is achieved. Remove chutney  from heat (stove).
  4. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve.

NOTES:

  1. Goes well with idli, dosai.
