Mussels masala recipe

INGREDIENTS:

  1. Mussels - 1/2 kilogram
  2. Finely chopped onion - 1
  3. Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon (tsp.)
  4. Chili powder - 1 teaspoon (tsp.)
  5. -- To be ground to paste --
    1. Shallot (sambar onion) - 10
    2. Garlic - 3 clove
    3. Ginger - 1/4 inch
    4. Fennel seed - 1/2 teaspoon (tsp.)
    5. Lemon - 1/2
    6. Salt - as needed
  6. Mustard seed - 1/4 teaspoon (tsp.)
  7. Curry leaf - 1 sprig
  8. Oil - as needed

PREPARATION:

  1. Grind all the ingredients under section "-- To be ground to paste --" to a thick fine paste by adding little water as needed.
  2. In a pan add 1/2 tumbler of water, lemon and steam the mussels. NOTE: once the are cooked they will open up.
  3. Now get the meat from the steamed mussels and keep it aside. NOTE: don't get meat from the mussels which did not open it might be harmful or poisonous.
  4. In a pan heat oil, add mustard seeds, curry leaf once the mustard seeds stop splattering add the onion and sauté until onion turns translucent.
