INGREDIENTS:

  1. Chicken - 1/2 kilogram
  2. Yogurt or curd - 1/4 cup
  3. Curry leaf - little
  4. Coriander leaf - little
  5. Oil - 1 tablespoon (tbsp.)
  6. Salt - as needed
  7. -- To be chopped finely --
    1. Onion - 1 big
    2. Tomato - 1
    3. Green chili - 1
  8. -- Masala powders --
    1. Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon (tsp.)
    2. Coriander powder - 1 teaspoon (tsp.)
  9. -- To be crushed --
    1. Garlic - 5 clove
    2. Cinnamon stick - 1 inch
    3. Fennel seed - 1/2 teaspoon (tsp.
  10. -- To be roasted and ground to paste --
    1. Coconut - 2 pieces (chopped)
    2. Ginger - 1 pieces (1 inch)
    3. Green chili - 3 or 4
    4. Poppy seed - 1 teaspoon (tsp.)
    5. Roasted gram - 1 tablespoon (tbsp.)

PREPARATION:

  1. Chop the ingredients under section "-- To be chopped finely --"
  2. Crush all the ingredients together under section "-- To be crushed -"
  3. Dry roast all the ingredients until the section "-- To be roasted and ground to paste --" and ground them to fine thick paste by adding little water as possible.
  4. Heat oil in pan. Now add the crushed ingredients and sauté until the raw smell is gone.
  5. Now add the onion and sauté until the onion becomes translucent.
  6. Now add chopped tomato, green chili and sauté until the tomato becomes mushy.
  7. Now add the powders under the section "-- Masala powders --", chicken pieces, salt as needed and sauté for 2 to 3 minutes.
  8. Now add the ground coconut paste, 2 cup of water and cook for about 15 minutes or until the chicken pieces are 90% cooked.
  9. Now add the yogurt, check for salt add if needed and cook until the chicken is cooked. Garnish with curry leaves, coriander leaves before you remove from heat and serve.

NOTES:

  1. Goes well with rice, idli, dosai.
