Green gram (payatham paruppu) payasam recipe

INGREDIENTS:

  1. Split Green gram - 100 grams
  2. Jaggery - 150 grams
  3. Fresh shredded coconut - 1/2 cup
  4. Rice flour - 1/2 tablespoon (tbsp.)
  5. Cardamom - 2
  6. Cashew - 10

PREPARATION:

  1. Grind coconut, cardamom, rice flour, 2 tablespoon of water and grind to paste.
  2. Break the jaggery into very small pieces. Dissolve the jaggery in 1/2 cup water. Strain the jaggery water and keep it aside.
  3. Cook the green gram by simmering in water until its well mashed. (takes about 15 to 20 minutes, you can pressure cook too).
  4. Now add jaggery water to the mashed green gram, stir well and cook for 5 minutes.
  5. Now add ground coconut and cook until it foams and close to start boiling. Remove from stove and keep it aside.
  6. Roast the cashew nuts in ghee; add to the payasam mix well and serve.
