INGREDIENTS:

  1. Parboiled rice - 1 cup
  2. Whole Black gram - 1/4 cup
  3. Sugar - 1 cup
  4. Water - 1 cup
  5. Orange Or Red Food Coloring (optional) - as needed
  6. Oil - for deep frying

PREPARATION:

  1. Soak rice, black gram in water for 2 or 3 hours.
  2. Grind the soaked ingredients in wet grinder or mixer to a fine thick batter by adding little water as possible. Should the little thicker than idli batter.
  3. Now add the food color and mix well until the batter turn to the color.
  4. In pan add sugar, water and heat them until the sugar is completely dissolved and start to boil, when starting to boil remove and keep it aside.
  5. In a pan heat oil for deep frying, add small batter by spoon until they are fried and float on the surface. Collect the fried small balls and add to them sugar syrup. NOTE: fry the balls in batches for good result.
  6. Soak the balls for 5 minutes then collect them and transfer to a plate. Once cool down enjoy.

NOTES:

  1. For best result the sugar syrup should not be too hot i.e. warm
  2. If the sugar syrup cooled drown just heat it up in medium heat until the syrup becomes warm.
